Trappist Monastery

Aside from its serene beaches, Guimaras could also be a place for meditation. I remember having our retreat here at Trappist Monastery when I was in highschool. It was a life-changing experience we had away from the busy urban life in Iloilo. Imagine having a quiet time with God underneath the pine trees and solemnly praying with the monks in their vespers.

Trappist Monastery, otherwise known as Our Lady of the Philippines Trappist Monastery, is one of the must-visit places in Guimaras. It is the only men's monastery of the Cistercian order in the Philippines founded in 1972.

The monks earn a living through selling jams, mango products, and other goodies in their gift shop. Apparently, this is my favorite place to shop souvenirs in the island.
